Winter tyres are also known as snow tyres. They are specifically designed and have tread patterns to dig down and bite into ice and snow easily.
Winter tyres are made from softer rubber compound which is very helpful in retaining the flexibility especially in cold weather. The material of the tyre is such that it allows the tyre to conform better in the surface of the road whereas the regular tyres get hard in summer and brittle in cold temperatures. In comparison to summer tyres, winter tyres have a better grip on icy and snowy surfaces. So especially for cold region, winter tyres are advisable.

For the places where snow and ice are very common, winter tyres are best suitable as it is associated with many other benefits. If your tyre can’t maintain a proper grip on the surface of the road then the other features like life-saving safety technologies like anti lock brakes etc will not be effective fully.
There are also all season, all-weather tyres which are designed in such a way that it is sufficient to cope with different types of conditions which includes dry roads and rain and different others. Usually they are made from harder materials which are very much suitable to the road surface as well as in low temperatures also. You can also say that all-season tyres are sneakers and snow tyres are recognized as heavy-duty snow boots.

It is not advisable to use snow tyres all year round as snow tyres are noisier as well as it is made from the softer compounds and for this reason they will wear out faster in the warm weather especially. This wear may be critical as this winter tyres are made in such a way that it is helpful in digging into snow and ice. So it is advisable that as soon as the snow is gone, you should change your winter tyres and put on the summer tyres.
